Despite what many will tell you, even in these troubled times there are always guaranteed employment opportunities for those willing to acquire the necessary certifications. You could choose to collect a check from the government if you wish, but with it you lose many of your freedoms and independence. I’ve taken the liberty to compile a list of jobs that not only have decent pay, but are a sure thing.
As an Emergency Medical Technician (E.M.T.) you will ride in ambulances, pick people up and transport them to a hospital, all while performing basic life sustaining duties. It is a relatively easy and quick certification to achieve. It comes with somewhat decent pay, guaranteed employment and the work is rarely hard. Unless you transport someone fat. Many states require EMTs to be on hand at all times in larger industrial facilities. In these cases you will literally sit around and do nothing and wait until someone hurts themselves. Stupid, old and fat people guarantee employment for any EMT willing to lug them around.
Should you find medical services unappealing you may wish to consider their brothers in arms, the fire fighters. A fire fighting cert is quite a bit more difficult to attain in most states. The risk is much higher than that of EMT but the pay is usually better for non volunteers in larger cities. As a fire fighter you will constantly be tasked to prove why building a house out of wood is a silly idea. Fighting fires is not as simple as dousing a house with a torrent of water. Depending on what is burning you need to know the appropriate agents to use. So don’t think getting a fire fighter cert is a walk in the park. You’ll need good common sense and the ability to stay calm under pressure.
No list of easy jobs to get is complete without everyone’s favorite: the truck driver. There are many companies that will pay for your CDL class, and lease you a truck to drive around. Provided your driving history isn’t like reading a bad horror novel you should be good to go. Of course being on the road all the time isn’t as romantic as Bob Seger makes it out to be. You will be spending many hours driving a big truck, swerving around to avoid the idiots who will cut you off. Of course if one of them hits you, even if it’s their fault, you will still take the fall. DOT is really cracking down on every little infraction as well. This is always guaranteed work depending on your driving history. America’s lifeblood is that of the trucking industry.
If you are sitting at home, crying about how you don’t have a job you’ve obviously not done your research. Having certifications and training will put you miles ahead in terms of employment opportunities. Good luck in your job search.

Most fire departments here in Canada have a 2 year waiting list. That, or they are volunteer.
You also forgot jobs dealing with waste. Garbage collection and sewage work is very stable employment.
I wonder why the wait is so long? Anyways, I could have compiled a list a mile long and left out a few things. It is neither desirable, nor plausible to list every job that is easy to get and stable. That would take a very long time despite what some may say. I simply wished to prove that work is out there for those who want it, and provide a few examples.
Thanks for reading.
